Re: Castle Lords Questions / Die Burgherren Fragen

Beitrag von StanoL »

Hi all, thanks for involving on this interesting expansion.
We make some several tests, and usually road was closed on length of 4. So 10 points for it.
Trebuchet mention multiple times that for majority and other things are used rules for regular road.
So only difference is scoring. All other rules are some - placement, magic portal usage, ferry, etc.
So to make shortcut.
1. We agree that Castle road becomes Castle road when at least one player has meeple on Castle tile. Doesn't matter how he was placed there (by regular placement, magic portal - confirmed by Trebuchet, etc).
2. As Castle road is not Castle than meeple is on road and not protected to be eaten by Dragon.
3. Interaction with Inn is directly in rules (road had double points in this case).
4. All other game mechanics are used by Regular road rules
Now to decide how to score Castle road.
1. If there is multiple Meeples on road - majority rules applies
And here become problematic places
A. Only one meeple has majority
  • A1. Meeple is on Castle tile - he will got Castle lord bonus
  • A2. Meeple is not on Castle tile - but road is Castle road - Question 1. Does he get Castle road bonus?
- Here A2 I'm for No. So only player which has meeple on Castle tile can get Castle road bonus

B. Multiple meeples has majority
We can use rules of regular road, that score of road do not stack by meeple. So simple situation:
  • B1. Multiple meeples have majority and all of them are on Castle tile (one or mutliple)
Each player get Castle road bonus
  • B1. Multiple meeples have majority and one player have Castle lord and one not
As A2, player with meeple(s) on Castle lord tile get Castle road bonus, and Player which not has meeple(s) on Castle lord tile will score only as regular road

C. Curious situations 1 - Well on road
Imagine situation with Castle road with two Castle lords on both end of road.
Castle Lord (Red) - road - road - road with well - road - Castle Lord (Blue)
When apply rules of Castle Lords, Red will scores 1 + 2 + 3 + 5 + 6 + 7 points
Blue will scores 1 + 2 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7
As you can see when used exact rules by Trebuchet and well will be involved into scoring Castle road bonus, then order of tiles is important.
Question 4a: Does other expansions involved to Castle Lord scoring?
Question 4b: Does every of Castle Lord scored differently?

I think this is bad approach, and Well is not involved into Castle road scoring, so order doesn't matter, because correct scoring for this road will be 1 + 2 + 3 +4 +5 + 6 as Castle Road and +1 for Well on road.
So 4a - No and then 4b - also No

D. Curious situations - Roundabout or Labyrinth on load
As scoring rule said: Each joining tile scores the player 1 point more than the previous tile
Then what with situation of Roundabout or Labyrinth on road.

Code: Alles auswählen

Castle Lord (1) - road (2) - roundabout (3) - road (4) - road (5)
                                                  \
                                                   road (6) - road (7)
Then we scores:
(1) - 1 point
(2) - 2 points = points for (1) + 1 point
(3) - 3 points = points for (2) + 1 point
(4) - 4 points = points for (3) + 1 point
(5) - 5 points = points for (4) + 1 point
But other arm of road
(6) - 4 points = points for (3) + 1 point
(7) - 5 points = points for (4) + 1 points

Here is complication because (6) is joining tile for previous tile which is (3).

Question 5: Is it important which tile is previous?
Here I suppose than yes. And it's also possibility to decrease power of Castle road because Important is length, but not count of all tiles, but distance between end of road and Castle Lord.

Hmm, no preffered answer by me
=====

Also eine einfache Situation:

exactly

Castle Lord (Red) - road - road - road with well - road - Castle Lord (Blue)

So 4a - No and then 4b - also No
The rules of "Wells" state: The player with majority gets 1 additional point for each well along the road. So the points for wells are attributed to the whole road and not to a particular tile.
So I agree with your conclusion = each player will score the same for the road and gets +1 for the well on top.
But 4a is yes. Other expansions can intervene (see Inns) but each expansion needs to be checked individually.
4b: no

I think Trebuchet goes by tile count. So the overall count is important not the order of the tiles. Castle lord rules state:
It scores 1 point for the Castle Road tile itself. Each joining tile scores the player 1 point more than the previous tile.

Re: Castle Lords Questions / Die Burgherren Fragen

Hi @StanoL
are all open questions answered here now? Do you now know all you need for JCZ?

In order to finish this, I just wanted to come back to one of my previous posts:
Challa007 hat geschrieben: Sa 19. Feb 2022, 12:51 1. What if an Inn is at the Castle Road? Double points or simply 1 point extra for every tile?

I would say:
if the castle road is owned by a "normal" meeple: 2 points per tile as per normal rules,
if the castle road is owned by the castle lord: castle road rules do not change (so no doubel-ing)
Trebuchet has mentioned in the official rules that Inns will double the points for the road, so my answer has to be corrected (StanoL already did that).

In my opinion, with this, I also have to change another answer:
Challa007 hat geschrieben: Sa 19. Feb 2022, 12:51 6. Does a brigde fit over the Castle?

hm, in this case I would say no
In fact, now I think it is yes. There is no reason why there should be an exception here (if there is no exception with Inns, then there is no exception with Bridges).

So StanoL, you only asked all this for JCZ, correct? You did not want to re-write the rules for Castle Lords to make them more understandable, correct?
If yes: then, @Fritz_Spinne , I suggest these clarifications can be used for the C2 conversion (Fortress Roads) on CarcC
